YOUTH MINISTRY
for Junior & Senior High students
Youth Ministry Mission Statement
The mission of the Youth Ministry is to nurture youth in their faith journeys so that they experience God's love and are inspired to serve others as disciples of Jesus Christ.
Sunday School
Sunday School is held Sundays from Rally Day (the Sunday following Labor Day) through May at 10:45 a.m.
JUMYs and UMYs
Junior United Methodist Youth and United Methodist Youth (senior high) fellowships are annual, student-led, state-wide conferences that bring together United Methodist youth for worship, fellowship, and workshop opportunities. Keynote speakers and praise bands are featured. JUMYs is held every November, and UMYs is held every March.
Confirmation Classes
We offer Confirmation for Junior High students. Students begin in the fall of their 7th grade year and are confirmed in the fall of their 10th grade year. Over the course of the three years, students look at stories from the Old Testament, New Testament and the church. We follow a monthly rotating model that includes one fun night, one service night and two small group/teaching nights. We meet each Wednesday night from the end of September through April. We emphasize the importance of relationships with other students and adult mentors. Each year, students are invited and encouraged to come on a confirmation retreat. Our next group of students will be confirmed on October 12, 2008.
Youth Mission Trips
Appalachian Service Project (ASP) is a home repair and home building ministry through which volunteers AGES 14+ repair and build homes for low-income families in rural Central Appalachia. Their goal is to make homes warmer, safer and drier, while offering transformational experiences for volunteers and homeowners alike. For more information, see their website at www.asphome.org
In recent years our church has sent work crews to Cocke County in Tennessee and Chavies & Breathitt Counties in Kentucky.
This year, our youth will be participating in a Youth Works mission trip to the Ozark Mountains in Arkansas.
